The Story Behind the Lens

About Aaron Johnson

Born from years of wandering with a camera through places including India, Myanmar, and Laos while being based in Thailand starting in the early 2010s, my journey behind the lens has always been driven by a deep curiosity for the world. Having lived in 15 different places over the years, I am currently based in Alberta, finding my true anchor in the rugged beauty of the Canadian wilderness.

While my early years captured the pulse of travel photography, my focus shifted entirely to the natural world in late 2025. Today, my portfolio is dedicated to the intimate, unfiltered moments of wildlife. Every image you see—with the exception of a defining puffin portrait captured in Newfoundland in 2022 and the Frozen Fur fox portrait from Yellowknife at Christmas 2023—was captured post-September 2025.

Working across Alberta, my goal is simply to capture the unique personalities of the animals I encounter through patience, luck, and persistence.
